Whessoe Road crossing point renewed

8.00.00pm GMT Wed 23rd Dec 2009

The Whessoe Road crossing point, near the cut leading to Brinkburn Road has seen the bollards at that point always being knocked down by traffic, then replaced by new ones which were also destroyed. It happened so often that it became a large annual cost to the Highways Department. So they proposed that the crossing point should be removed.

North Road Councillor, Fred Lawton, arranged a site visit. With help from the Darlington Association on Disability, he was able to persuade the Council that the crossing is a well-used and necessary facility. These small things make a difference to people's lives.

Now we have newly designed crossing, with an extra bollard to warn traffic that the crossing point is approaching. So far, it seems to be working.
